Watching for Winners in a $300T Tokenization Opportunity
By John Sarson, CEO, Sarson Funds, Inc.
Real-world events are confirming the migration of securities on-chain. On October 28, 2026, DTCC launched its Tokenization Service, letting participants convert eligible securities held at DTC into digital twins on Canton and on DTCC’s private Besu network.
The 34 securities eligible at launch represent roughly $30 trillion in market value, according to a DTCC spokesperson cited by CoinDesk. That is the pool now eligible for tokenization, not the amount already moved on-chain.
Earlier this year, firms including DTCC, Euroclear and LSEG completed a cross-border repo on Canton using tokenized U.K. government bonds.
Tokenization has become working market infrastructure, not just an investment narrative. Tokenization has become working market infrastructure, not just an investment narrative. Digital Asset, the company behind Canton, estimates roughly $300 trillion in high-quality liquid assets globally, illustrating the potential scale of the opportunity.
For a forward-looking investor, the question is now which investment
vehicles or companies will participate in the value creation that accompanies this transition. The problem is that simply owning assets that become tokenized does not change their underlying value, at least not directly. We therefore look to the service and infrastructure providers as the real winners in this movement. Our investment in Canton ($CC) is one way to participate, and not a perfect one: today its utility is limited to Global Synchronizer traffic fees and network incentives.
Think of Canton as Wall Street’s version of Ethereum, connecting DTCC and major banks through shared infrastructure built for institutional privacy and control.
Those controls matter. DTC keeps claw-back and forced-transfer rights over its tokens, and Canton’s Super Validators can vote to block sanctioned parties from the network. These are asset-level recovery and access controls, not a universal power to undo transactions or freeze any account, and Ethereum can support similar issuer controls through standards such as ERC-3643.
Canton’s edge is its institutional architecture and ecosystem, not exclusive technology. $CC offers exposure to that ecosystem, not ownership of DTCC or its banks, and adoption does not guarantee token appreciation.
